 Some Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bowl For Kids' Sake (BFKS)?

It is Big Brothers Big Sisters national signature event, with Bowl for Kids Sake events held across the country beginning every March. Think of it as a "bowl-a-thon" event where you and your friends secure sponsors, then you come out and have fun to help kids!

When/where is it?

The majority of our events are held the in March thru August, 2009. We're all over middle Tennessee, so see the 2009 Bowling Dates of this website for a complete list of times and bowling centers.

How does it work?

Companies and individuals put teams together to have a party. Each bowler (5 per team) signs up and raises pledges from friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, etc. With $100 in sponsorships, each bowler gets a free t- shirt and free bowling party on one of the party days. There are other great prizes for higher pledge levels: CDs, DVDs, even $100 savings bonds!

How do pledges work?

Pledges are made by your sponsors based on your participation, not your score. So roll all the gutter balls you want! Statements will be sent by the Big Brothers Big Sisters office to sponsors for all pledges over $10. Pledges $10 and under need to be pre-paid.

Who can participate?

Anyone! Team members can be any age, but every bowler needs a completed pledge sheet.

How many people can be on a team?

Five (5) people per team. Every team should have 1 Team Captain and 4 teammates (everyone bowls). Sometimes teams are four people, or six folks, especially when a larger group like a company or professional association is all bowling together and that's OK, too.

What is a Team Captain?

He or she is the leader of their team. This person has recruited 4 people to bowl and made sure each has received a pledge envelope to sign up at least $100 in sponsors on each of them. They are responsible for getting the roster for their team to their Company Coordinator or the Big Brothers Big Sisters office. They also help make sure everyone gets to the right bowling center at the right time!

Can kids bowl on my team?

Absolutely! Anyone can bowl as long as they raise pledges. Kids are some of our best participants!

Can I bring a guest to watch my team bowl?

Sure, but they will have more fun if they join a team and raise pledges so they can earn prizes of their own, even if they decide not to bowl. Be sure and tell Big Brothers Big Sisters that you have a "cheerleader" coming with your team if they're not on a team roster.
